Could some one with electronics expertise tell in which case a 50-Ohm terminator is used on the Oscilloscope?
I would like to know how the use of the 50-Ohm terminator affects a typical electrical measurement observed on the Oscilloscope. For instance, I do some experiments with measuring RMS current from an electrical system using Tektronix Current Probe and Tektronix Oscilloscope. I notice that two different waveforms can be observed with and without the use of a 50-Ohm terminator, could someone explain? Thanks in advance.
from the current probe or any other source we need some length of cable to connect to the measuring instrument
this cable (often coaxial) when terminated in the proper impedance (Z0) will have a flat frequency response
if improperly terminated will have some ringing, or amplitude variations.
for RMS measurement you should use an RMS multimeter
