Movie video games are getting better all the time
There's been tie-in movie video games nearly as long as there have been the means to play video and console games. Whilst a selection of them good, most of them have been unfortunately lacklustre in nigh on every aspect that made the movies they were based around great. This year, thankfully there is a superb selection of movie video games out to enjoy- some of which might well be better than the films themselves!
First up there's the official movie video game based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This awesome adventure game is thankfully much better than the Wolverine film itself! Developed by Raven Software, the Wolverine video game features a noticeably different story-line to the hit movie, but it does have Hugh Jackman's voice and visual likeness. The game features all of Wolverine's abilities, which are used in a rather interesting way- in particular his healing ability.
As far as Marvel comics games go, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie video game is shockingly violent, as you will notice from the battlefield strewn with dismembered corpses and other not-so-cute things. Well, the Wolverine character definitely has claws. Here you can make him use them to their complete murderous effect.
Then there is the brand new multi-platform game established on Terminator Salvation, the newest movie in the apocalyptic cyborg science fiction adventure film franchise. Where both Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and its movie video game version were terrible, this appears to be going hand in hand with the exciting new vision of the new Terminator film and is superb to see and play. Here's a fine example of how movie video games are improving a great deal lately.
Now with 2 player co-operative game-play, the Terminator franchise is catching up with other video games such as the huge hit Gears of War franchise, allowing for some fun split-screen battles to be played out. Merge this with the ingeniously rendered futuritic distopian world that the movie video game takes place in, which you can use to your full advantage when playing the game, and you have one compelling prospect for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
The eagerly awaited Ghostbusters movie video game is something that is causing a huge commotion. With news that the third Ghostbusters movie is finally going ahead, 20 years after the second Ghostbusters movie arrived, now is the perfect time to remind yourself of the iconic Ghostbusters characters and situations. Let's face it, the first is an absolute classic in every sense of the word, and at last there's a movie video game that does it the justice it deserves.
The concept behind the new Ghostbusters game was created by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, the writers (and stars) of the 1st two Ghostbusters movies, so the new game may even be canon to a certain level. The classic original four Ghostbusters characters have been back as amazing digital versions of the actors, and the whole game looks superb. All of your character's vital readings are displayed on your Proton pack, giving this movie video game a similar feel to Dead Space. With all of the classic creatures appearing in the game, fans will be enthralled when they pick it up for their DS, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 or Wii.
Following on from such a rash of lacking movie video game tie-ins, it seems that the new titles that are coming onto the market are being made with much more respect for the original material and also what the fans want out of a movie video game based on their most loved movies. These are some of the best movie video games around right now, and hopefully they can help you unveil a great new level of enjoyment from your favourite movies.
The Making of a New O’Reilly Media Ebook: Cool Tools in the Kitchen (MAKE Magazine)
Broadly defined, a Cool Tool can be any book, gadget, software, video, map,
hardware, material, or website that has proven utility. The reviews there are
not the kind of comparative reviews you’ll find in magazines and other
websites, which give pros and cons for each item. Rather, our reviews are
outright rave recommendations submitted by readers who swear by the items,
telling you why you should use them as well. Think of this book as a very
knowledgeable best friend recommending the coolest stuff in no uncertain
terms.
